The Mane Squeeze The Pride Series Shelly Laurenston Books

This is book 4 of the series and I found it MUCH easier to read than book 3. That book took me 3 days to read. I honestly think Mitch and Sissy's book didn't do them justice. Being such important characters in the series thats unfortunate.

This book was awesome. I loved Gwen and Lock. Gwen isn't as crazy as Sissy or Ronnie but close. She protects those she cares about brutally. Blaine, her best friend is awesome as well they are like peas in a pod. Gwen is a liger, part lion and part tiger. She's a half breed and not everyone is happy they exist. She grew up in a Pride but never felt she belonged. She is protected and loved there but she will never have a place there which makes her feel like an outsider. She wants to break away from that and go out on her own. However, her family has a hard time letting go. Her mother Roxy and her brother Mitch. He really is a pain in the butt in this book. Mitch is way too overprotective and continually oversteps. She does take the plunge and goes into business with Blaine...a plumbing business which is awesome. We have Lock who is a huge grizzly bear shifter. He was in the Marines and in the same Unit Dee Ann Smith was in and let me just say Dee Ann is very much like her father Eggie. Lock got out 3 years ago and has done well for himself. He's got a loving family and his Dad is funny and his mom is just awesome. He's a wood carpenter but its only something he does in his spare time otherwise he's got a job in Jess' company. He's good friends with her. He meets/saves Gwen one day after being attacked because she and Blaine are half breeds. They had some major chemistry and I loved their story. Lock is very sweet and funny and not a complicated guy. Gwen is definitely high maintenance. She isn't wanting to get involved with Lock at first. She's so drawn to him its really cute and she ends up asking him out later. This book made me laugh. I love Ric too. I think the funniest part or one of them was when Gwen got so fed up with Mitch's crap she snuck into his room and clawed his ass literally with her claws. Its funny cause Sissy just layed there and was like whatever. Ha. As much as I love Ronnie Lee she annoyed me just a tad. I mean I get her wanting Brendan to be happy but she flipped out a little bit too much with Gwen. She doesnt care about Gwen or her feelings just Brendans at the time. She was quite brutal. Also, reading Mitch's book I didnt find him so annoying as I did in this book. I find that common with characters in series like this. You like them fairly well in their book but when you come across them later its different. I believe Ric and Dee Ann's story is coming up and I cant wait to learn more about these characters.

The Mane Squeeze The Pride Series Shelly Laurenston Books Reviews

Please note this review may contain spoilers.

The Mane Squeeze starts where book 2 finishes, with Smitty and Jessie Ann's wedding and introduces us to Lachlan "Lock" MacRyrie (grizzly shifter) and Gwen O'Neill (tigon shifter and Mitch Shaw's half sister). Lock is a new character while Gwen was briefly introduced to us at the beginning of book 3.

The pair meet briefly at the wedding and again a few days later when Gwen is viciously attacked by an unknown wolf pack while visiting the half brother of her half brother (I love that saying), a.k.a. Brendon Shaw. Lock takes her to the hospital but is forced to leave before they can exchange contact information.

Flash forward a couple of months and the pair meet again, have hot hot hot sex, fall in love and have more hot sex, all thanks to the help/interference of family and friends and Project Code Name Bear-Cat.

While I love all the books in this series, Lock is my favourite male character. He's just so sweet and shy and a little awkward, despite being seven feet tall (oops, I mean six-eleven and three-quarters) and very quick to attack if startled. But hey, he is a grizzly after all. And the image of him in a Scottish kilt costume without a shirt will go with me to my dreams tonight.

This book marks the beginning of the story arc which will continue through to book 9 and also introduces us to Blayne, Gwen's best friend and wolf-dog hybrid. I think the next book is her story.
I love this series. Such a wide variety of shifters - wild dogs, big cats, wolves, bears – who embody the characteristics of their animals, even in human form.

The book is the story of Lachlan, a bear shifter, and Gwen, a tigon (half tiger, half lion). The author brought these characters to life for me. The farther I read, the more I discovered.

Lachlan might just be my favorite hero so far. Big, sexy, thoughtful, and mean as hell when he’s thrown into a bear rage. His most endearing quality? He likes to play with his toes when he gets stressed. It’s a very bear thing to do.

Gwen is, like many of the females in this series, kick-ass. She’s a little rough around the edges, but takes her nail care seriously. Beneath that tough exterior, she has her own fears and insecurities, which makes her very likable.

Beyond the hero and heroine, it was nice to see familiar characters from the previous books. There are a lot of them, which makes for a complex series story line behind each book. Each story is a stand-alone, but I’d recommend starting from the beginning and not waiting too long between books; it’s easy to forget who’s who and keep track of things otherwise.
